Ergonomic Work Station Set-Up
The angles and information in the picture below summarise the basic requirements you need to correctly set up your computer workstation.
People with an incorrect set-up usually suffer occupational-overuse type symptoms a lot sooner than those colleagues who have adjusted their setup as outlined below.
Occupational Overuse Symptoms can include:
- back and neck pain
- headaches
- visual disturbances
- tingling or numbness in the arms and hands

Points worth noting are:
- You should be looking slightly down at the screen (top of monitor at eye level)
- There should be no glare on your screen, use an optical glass anti-glare filter where needed
- Sit at arms length from the monitor
- Your feet should be firmly on the floor or on a stable footrest (depending on the desk height)
- Use a document holder, preferably in-line with the computer screen
- Your wrists should be flat and straight in relation to forearms to use the keyboard and mouse
- Your arms and elbows should be relaxed and close to your body (as per the diagram above)
- Centre the monitor and keyboard in front of you (as per the diagram above)
- Take frequent short breaks (micro breaks)
