Calf Muscle Injury - Becky (Hammersmith)

After months of suffering a calf injury that had completely stopped me training, I was referred to London Physio through Charing Cross Hospital, as they specialise in sports and running injuries. Tim very quickly pinpointed the problem to a trapped nerve and started treatment immediately, through both regular Physio sessions and a self exercise programme that I could easily do on my own. Tim was also able to be very flexible with early/late sessions so that I did not have to take time off work and that made a huge difference. As the problem eased I was able to start training again and building up my strength and fitness and have just completed my first half marathon since last year. It made the world of difference to have a friendly and supportive face during a very frustrating time and I have learnt a whole new part of my training that I will continue to incorporate into my regular training sessions.

Achilles Tendonitis - John (Chiswick)

I had suffered from chronic Achilles tendonitis for a number of years and was referred to London Physio by my orthopaedic consultant. The pain in both of my Achilles was gradually getting worse, to a point where I was hobbling around for at least 30 minutes every morning, as well as being in pain during and after exercise. The team at London Physio provided a very clear diagnosis, treatment plan and rehabilitation programme during my first visit and also organised a biomechanical assessment with the podiatrist. I had some immediate relief from the pain and discomfort and attended physiotherapy sessions regularly over a period of about four months at the end of which time I was completely pain free and exercising regularly to a high level of fitness. I have been able to return to my previous exercise level since that time.

Calf Muscle Strain - Mike (Notting Hill)

I first came to see Mark at London Physio after developing a problem with my calf muscle whilst training for the London Marathon. After the initial assessment, a comprehensive program of stretching, strengthening, deep tissue massage and acupuncture put me quickly back on the road to recovery. As a marathon runner himself, Mark understood the psychological impact of  missing my scheduled training program, as well as obviously understanding the clinical and physiological aspect of how an injury should heal.  I am pleased to say that I not only completed the marathon, but ran just under three hours – a new PB!!

Shoulder Stabilisation Surgery – Henry (Putney)

After dislocating my shoulder several times playing rugby in my twenties, it continued to give me trouble on and off depending on what activities I was doing. When I decided at 30 to return to playing regular club level tennis, it was more than my shoulder could cope with and I developed rotator cuff tendonitis and bursitis due to the instability. A combination of pre-op physiotherapy treatment with Mark at The Queen’s Club, stabilisation surgery with a leading London shoulder specialist, and further post-op treatment with Mark – I am now playing tennis 3 to 4 times a week at a high level without the slightest hint of shoulder pain. The coordinated approach and regular communication between Mark and my surgeon was key to my overall success, and I am delighted with the outcome.

Lumbar Spine Disc Prolapse – Katie (Notting Hill)

I recently suffered acute and severe low back pain after a day in the garden. I was a little bit stiff that evening, but was literally unable to get out of bed the following day. A house-call by my very helpful GP and some strong painkillers enabled me to get up and about, but my back remained very painful and I also developed shooting pains in my legs.

I was referred to the team at London Physio in Notting Hill, where they diagnosed a disc prolapse. The injury was fully explained and a treatment and rehabilitation program put in place. The acute pain subsided within two weeks with a combination of traction, massage, acupuncture, postural advice and a home program of exercises which I performed several times a day. Once I was moving and functioning almost normally I was referred on to one of the physiotherapists trained in Pilates. My six 1-on-1 Pilates sessions left me confident enough to join in with the pilates class at my gym which I hope to continue for a long time to come.

I can highly recommend the team at London Physio and think the combined approach of reducing the acute pain and then rehabilitating with a pilates-based program has worked wonders for me.

Shin Splints – Julian - Personal Trainer (Acton)

Mark has been my Physiotherapist of choice since one of my clients first recommended him 5 years ago. After suffering from a very bad case of shin splints for a number of years, Mark and his Podiatrist - George Ramft had me back running again pain free within a few weeks. Since working with Mark I have now gone on to complete 5 Ironman Races and numerous other long distance events.

The value of Mark as a Physio is that he understands the needs of all levels of athletes when it comes to treating injuries. By this I mean his aim is to get you back into what you love doing as soon as possible. This largely comes from his background as an athlete himself and his experiences of top level sport.

As a triathlon coach and personal fitness trainer I have to have total confidence in therapists when recommending them to my clients. I have total confidence in Mark and his team and would highly recommend them as my first choice Physio’s to anyone who is suffering with injury problems.
